The construction of the new Abaceria Municipal Market in the Gràcia district of Barcelona has just begun, and it will last approximately 24 months.
In the words of Raquel Gil, President of the IMMB, “the Abaceria market project is the result of an extensive dialogue that has resulted in an equipment that meets the demands and needs of stallholders, the neighborhood and traders. It will be a modern and friendly space, understood as a public space, as a new square for everyone.”
The project will recover all the space around the perimeter of the market and envisages the increase of green in the public space of around 1,500 sqm and will create a public space of similar dimensions to the Plaça de la Revolució, a living space that will allow neighborhood activity to be carried out. The new Mercat de l’Abaceria will be a building with 14,350 sqm of surface area that will consist of a ground floor, a mezzanine floor divided into two heights and 3 basement floors.
