The proposal suggests taking the main volume as a model, the current building, validating the dialogue established by the two bodies from equal to equal. It is clear that one cannot fall into the error of emulating architectural styles surpassed by time, therefore, the materiality must be different.
Massiveness versus Lightness, this is the strategy.
While opting to maintain the material and formal expressivity in Block 19, consisting of the predominance of the full against the void and respecting the current compositional axes, the new building is considered from a more immaterial point of view, much less massive, emphasizing lightness against massiveness, lattices against walls, light porticos in front of load-bearing walls.
This contrast at the physical level does not occur at the material perceptual level. The ceramic materiality of the current building is valued by exporting it to the new one in a completely different way: ceramic enclosures and ceramic lattice elements to sift sunlight.
The future of the central part of the Can Batlló enclosure will have the character of an urban park. This is one of the reasons why the rest of the surface building, outside the main volume of the new building, does not exceed the height of the ground floor and is less massive. It is intended that the park enters the school, the alternation of playgrounds and playgrounds confirm this will.
