REDESIGN OF CITY CENTER
SELECTED SECOND PHASE RESTRICTED DESIGN COMPETITION
The project seeks a relationship between different parts of the city. Urban analysis can observe a clear distinction between the streets, which were constructed before and after 1834 when a fire destroyed the major parts of the city center. The streets were narrow and irregular reflecting the ancient history of the city: the slow urban growth and poorly planned. The streets after the fire are rectilinear and orthogonal which are more comfortable for vehicle and less friendly to pedestrian. One of the main goals of the project will unify the two urban typologies for a new city which is friendly to pedestrian and comfortable to vehicles.
