The project was designed without a definite site and therefore it had to adapt easily to any location. In fact, two buildings were built from the same project.
As we were not familiar with the Galician landscape in which the building was to be situated, we took the climate as our reference. The building had to fit in with the misty, wet atmosphere of Galicia.
The foyer is an independent volume that makes the accesses 100% adaptable and protects the bathing area. The building has a cold, hard skin and a simple volume which, like ice, offers an interesting interplay of transparency, translucency and an opaque sheen. When it rains, as it often does in Galicia, the building “sweats” and the cold water drips down the glass façades. When night falls, conversely, the block of ice becomes a glowing lantern.
The interior has a warm atmosphere thanks to the timber main beams, it’s clean-lined and user-friendly-relaxing, like the thermal waters of Celtic antiquity.
