The Güell Colony, with its crypt designed by Gaudí, is surrounded by woods and farmland. The urban structure generated by two orthogonal axes hamper peaceful natural contact with the setting. The school site is delimited by the layout of two crossing roads, and the land in front of the school will be used as a green area.
The programme is laid out in a simple comb scheme, comprising a lengthwise volume that houses the communal spaces with a series of wings running crosswise that accommodate the classrooms.
The lengthwise corridor connects all the parts of the building and adapts to the gradient of the site by means of a system of gently sloping ramps with landings that lead into the different classroom corridors.
The parallel wings run from north to south. The arrangement of the openings provides perfect lighting, and solar protection is provided in the form of overhangs to filter the morning sunshine, whereas the corridors leading to the classrooms face west.
The roofs of the gymnasium, the main body and the classrooms are flat with a finish of chippings.
