MUNICIPAL PUBLIC WORKS BUILDING

ARCHITECTS

BCQ arquitectura barcelona

LOCATION

Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. Barcelona

YEAR

2003

CLIENT

Santa Perpètua de Mogoda City Council

AREA

Building 947 m² | Public space 2.368 m²

STATUS

Built

COLLABORATOR

Enric Heredia (Structures engineering), David Lledó (MEP engineering), Forteza Carbonell (QS)

CONTRACTOR

BUDGET

The building is set in a suburban fabric that is rather lacking in charm, and its programme, designed to house both administration and physical work, made the project rather ambiguous. The approach therefore chooses very clear premises and a forceful volume for the design.
The building is designed with two faces: one, dark, closed and rather enigmatic, looking towards the town, the other light-filled, open and deliberately industrial, overlooking the inner work area. The use of galvanized metal sheet and slatted aluminium makes the south-facing façade pulsate. Its extreme length makes it look like a moving train. The darkness of the urban façade and its lack of openings make the building disappear on the town side. There appears to be nothing left of the building but its shadow.
