The new facility is conceived as a single volume clear and simple. We understand that sports practice must play a leading role in its immediate environment, which is why it is proposed to open a glazed strip on three of the free facades that surround the courts, as if we are covering part of the public space. The presence of five monumental cedars in the middle of the site was one of the most important issues of the project. Currently, the Eulàlia Bota School uses the space between its building and the five cedars as a playground including these trees, and the proposal wanted to maintain and enhance this relationship. That is why it is proposed to transplant the five trees keeping their current on line configuration closer to the school. The new equipment consists of two very different programs: a Sports Hall and a Municipal Public Works Centre. In order to fulfil the maximum occupancy established by the planning, it has been decided to compact the program to the maximum, mixing the two programs in a single volume while maintaining their independence of accesses and operation. This strategy is in favour of reducing the surface area of the foundations and building skin resulting in significant material and energy savings.
